Schaltbau Group sales up by 7.9 % in 2013

– growth driven primarily by door systems for railway vehicles and brake systems

– 5 % rise in order-intake underpins growth target for 2014

Munich, 15 January 2014 – The Schaltbau Group, a leading supplier of components and systems in the field of transportation technology, remained on growth course in the fiscal year 2013. Based on preliminary figures, sales rose by 7.9 % to EUR 391.5 million (2012: EUR 362.8 million). Fourth-quarter sales of EUR 95.4 million were at a similar level to the previous year.

All three segments reported higher sales than in 2012, with the Mobile Transportation Technology segment performing particularly dynamically. Sales of the Door Systems for Railway Vehicles product group rose sharply on the back of the ongoing success of the segment’s BIDS technology. Within the Stationary Transportation Technology segment, the decrease in sales recorded for Rail Infrastructure business was more than offset by the increase achieved with Brake Systems. The Components segment profited in particular from series deliveries of high-voltage contactors to Russian Railways as well as from strong demand for switches.

Order-intake also developed positively for the Schaltbau Group and rose by 5.0 percent to preliminary EUR 391.0 million compared to the previous year (EUR 372.3 million). ‘The strong order-book situation gives us good reason to be optimistic that we will be able to achieve our targeted growth in 2014 and thus take our sales up to approximately EUR 410 million’, emphasised Dr. Jürgen Cammann, Spokesman of the Executive Board.

The main factor has been the sharp rise in order-take in the Mobile Transportation Technology segment, especially in the Door Systems business field. Within the Stationary Transportation Technology segment, order volumes for Rail Infrastructure were down on the previous year due to order delays for signalling systems, with the decrease only partially compensated by the increased level of orders for shunting technology. Delays also arose for platform screen doors. By contrast, order-intake increased in the Brake Systems business field and continues to show a positive trend. Alongside good demand for traditional container business, new orders from the wind power and mining sectors also contributed to the rise in new business. The Components segment achieved a slightly higher order-intake than one year earlier despite some project delays in China and problems incurred in the Photovoltaic business field. The Schaltbau Group’s fourth-quarter order-intake totalled EUR 91.4 million (Q4 2012: EUR 87.7 million), thus confirming the positive trend recorded over the course of the year.

With annual sales of around EUR 400 million and a workforce of 2,000 employees, the Schaltbau Group is one of the leading suppliers of components and systems in the field of transportation technology and the capital goods industry. The enterprise supplies complete level crossing systems, shunting and signals technology, door and boarding systems for buses, trains and commercial vehicles and industrial braking systems for container cranes and wind power plants as well as high- and low-voltage components for railway vehicles and other applications. Its innovative and customer-oriented products make Schaltbau a key business partner for a variety of industrial sectors, in particular transportation technology.
