Schaltbau Holding AG: Supervisory Board appoints Dr Jürgen Brandes as new member of the Executive Board to succeed Dr Albrecht Köhler
– With effect from 1 April, Dr Jürgen Brandes appointed Executive Board member responsible for the Components segment
– Dr Jürgen Brandes succeeds Dr Albrecht Köhler as Chairman of the Executive Board at the turn of the year
– Dr Albrecht Köhler (CEO) will continue to serve the Schaltbau Group in an advisory capacity after the age-related expiry of his appointment to the Executive Board on 31 December 2020
Munich, 4 March 2020 – At today’s meeting, the Supervisory Board of Schaltbau Holding AG [ISIN DE000A2NBTL2] appointed Dr Jürgen Brandes as new member of the Executive Board. Dr Brandes will be responsible for the Components segment with effect from 1 April 2020.
“With Dr Brandes we have found an outstanding executive with the required expertise and vision to successfully manage our next phase of growth,” said Dr Hans Fechner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Schaltbau Holding AG. “In addition to his outstanding expertise in electrical mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and automation, our Group will benefit in particular from his comprehensive personal management experience in international business.”
Dr Jürgen Brandes has more than 35 years of professional experience in the fields of electrical mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and automation. During his many years at Siemens AG, he gained operational and strategic management experience in all key corporate functions, including numerous general management functions – most recently as CEO of the Process Industries and Drives division. Dr Brandes also has deep industry knowledge in diverse process industries, in supplier industries, in engineering, and especially in electromobility and the rail sector, including modern signalling technology.
“I greatly look forward to taking up my new position in the Schaltbau Group and view the company’s current situation as an ideal time to join the management team,” Dr Jürgen Brandes commented. “Schaltbau has a wealth of experience and knowledge in proven, safety-relevant key technologies for DC applications in the rail sector, which will also be called for in the emerging growth markets of new mobility, new energy and new industry. I see the development and implementation of the Group’s further growth strategy as a fascinating personal challenge.”
The Components segment is represented by the Schaltbau GmbH Group, which primarily develops, produces, and sells connectors, snap-action switches, contactors and driver’s cab equipment that meet the highest safety standards. Contactors are electrically actuated switches for handling high-voltage currents that have long been installed in locomotives and multiple units. However, they are also increasingly being used in the field of electric mobility and for generating renewable energy in wind farms or photovoltaic power plants as well as for Industry 4.0 applications. The overall safety of the various systems is regularly the primary concern here.
“The expansion of our management team through the addition of Dr Brandes is a great advantage for the Schaltbau Group,” commented Dr Albrecht Köhler, Chairman of the Executive Board of Schaltbau Holding AG. “Against the backdrop of the growth strategy we have already adopted, the management team of the holding company will thus provide us with vital support for successfully and sustainably leveraging the market potential that exists in the Components segment, even after my appointment to the Executive Board.”
Dr Albrecht Köhler’s period of service on the Executive Board comes to an end for age-related reasons on 31 December 2020. He will, however, continue to benefit the Company with his wealth of sector expertise in an advisory capacity.
