Strong growth for Schaltbau Group in fourth quarter 2012
Munich, 17 January 2012 – The Schaltbau Group performed extremely well during the final three months of 2012. Based on preliminary figures, fourth-quarter group sales rose by 17.3% to EUR 96.2 million (Q4 2011: EUR 82.0 million), making it the year’s best quarter in revenue terms. Sales for the twelve-month period increased by 14.2% to EUR 363.4 million (2011: EUR 318.4 million), marginally higher than the most recent forecast for the full year.
Dynamic growth was generated in the Stationary Transportation Technology segment. This was aided in particular by the excellent fourth-quarter performance of the Brake Systems business field which was impressively able to continue the growth trend recorded in the first nine months of the year. Full-year sales of the Rail Infrastructure business field were also sharply up on the previous year. This included a major contribution from the Pintsch-Tiefenbach Group — consolidated for the first time since January 2012 — which achieved its target for the year thanks to the planned high level of sales in the final quarter. Even excluding the impact of this change in the group reporting entity, however, the Rail Infrastructure business field recorded good growth. The Components segment benefited in particular from above-average sales figures in North America throughout the year. Sharp growth within the Door Systems for Railway Vehicles product group enabled the Mobile Transportation Technology segment to increase sales slightly in 2012 compared to the high level recorded one year earlier.
Order intake also developed well for the Schaltbau Group in the final quarter of 2012. Based on preliminary figures, order intake during the fourth quarter amounted to EUR 87.7 million, 27.7% up on the comparatively low figure recorded one year earlier (Q4 2011: EUR 68.7 million). Order intake for the full year increased by 8.6% to EUR 372.3 million (2011: EUR 342.8 million).
All segments recorded good growth rates in the final three months of 2012 compared to same quarter last year when order intake had fallen. The Stationary Transportation Technology segment experienced brisk order intake in the Brake Systems business field on the one hand and steady demand in its Rail Infrastructure business field, the latter including order intake for Pintsch-Tiefenbach Group for the first time. Fourth-quarter order intake in the Components segment was up significantly against the previous year’s weak performance, enabling the segment to achieve a small increase for the full year 2012. Demand for contactors was particularly strong. A major order received for the Door Systems for Railway Vehicles product group and stable bus door business throughout the fourth quarter meant that the Mobile Transportation Technology segment was more or less able to make good the order intake shortfall registered during the first nine months of the year.
